Sabres Let One Slip Away

All the Sabres had to do was keep the Avalanche off of the scoreboard for another two seconds.

Jamie McGinn knocked the puck past Miller in the dying seconds of the third period to tie the game. The Sabres couldn’t score in the shootout and Colorado went on to win by a 5-4 score.

Drew Stafford and Tyler Ennis each had a three point night, but it wasn’t enough. The Sabres fell to 11-1-4 when Ennis records a point.

Drew Stafford’s first short-handed goal of his career. Stafford tallied three points on the night.

On a positive note, with his father watching from the stands, Marcus Foligno cashed in. Fans finally got to see the anxiously awaited Foligno jump as Foligno scored early in the first period to put Buffalo up 1-0.

But he wasn’t done. Foligno would score again, which tied the game at three in the second period.

Alexander Sulzer earned his first goal as a Buffalo Sabre in the third period, giving the Sabres a one goal lead.

Unfortunately for Buffalo, the late goal by Colorado and the shootout loss prevented the Sabres from getting both points.

Colorado improve to 9-1 in shootout and move into a playoff position. Meanwhile, the Sabres move to three back of Washington, but the Capitals have played one less game.

The Sabres came into the game with a 3-0 record against the Northwest division while Colorado came in with a 4-0 record against the Northeast. Something had to give, and it was Colorado that came out on top.

Nathan Gerbe was a surprise scratch for tonight’s game. The Sabres forward was on the ice for warmups, but was scratched due to an upper-body injury. Cody McCormick got a start because of it.

Jamie McGinn stayed hot for the Avalanche as beat Ryan Miller with a wrist shot to tie the game at one.

The Sabres are off until Saturday, when they head to Florida to take on the Panthers. That game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

A loss at this time of the season is always tough but to lose like that makes it worse. They have been the cardiac kids all year winning late, crazy and in OT. Unfortunately with that comes late losses. Almost vs the Habs n tonite against the Avs. Gotta forget and rebound vs the Cats
