Sabres Defeat Sens In Shootout

Tyler Ennis secured the two points as he beat Ben Bishop in the shootout. The Sabres trailed three times in this one, but found a way to get it done.

With some hard work and a little bit of luck, Marcus Foligno earned his first NHL goal. A Buffalo bounce off of Daniel Alfredsson tied the game at three.

If it weren’t for Ryan Miller, the Sabres may have not made it to the shootout. Miller stopped 33 of 36 shots and the Sabres escaped Ottawa with a pair of points.

With Buffalo on the power play in the first period, Tyler Myers jumped in an effort to keep the puck in the zone. However, it just got past him and Erik Condra sped down the ice on a breakaway, and beat Ryan Miller.

The Sabres outshot the Senators 12-7 in the opening period, but headed to the intermission down by a goal.

Jason Pominville and the Sabres had a glorious chance on a 3-on-1 rush early in the second period. After receiving a pass, Pominville’s stick snapped, ending the rush.

However, Nathan Gerbe would get Buffalo on the board a short time later. ripped a shot past Ben Bishop to tie the game at one.

Erik Karlsson gave the Senators a 2-1 lead after he beat Miller about midway through the second period. Although Ottawa scored, Miller came up big for Buffalo, stopping 20 shots in the second period alone.

In the final minute of the period, the Sabres found a way to tie it up once again. On the way down to the ice from a check, Tyler Ennis knocked the puck into the net for his eighth goal of the season.

Just like Thursday’s game in Boston, the Sabres entered the third period tied.

The Senators would take the lead for third time as Karlsson scored again. His 18th goal of the season put Ottawa up 3-2 with 14 minutes remaining in the third period.

The shootout went Buffalo’s way and with the win, the Sabres move to two points back of Washington for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

The Sabres will head back home to take on the Canadiens on Monday. That game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
