Woes Continue in 2-1 OT Loss to Jets

The Sabres came into this game fresh off a 4-2 loss in Carolina the night before. Derek Roy missed his first game of the season, but Buffalo got Tyler Myers and Ville Leino back in action.

After Lindy Ruff stated that he wanted to get Ryan Miller going and on a run, Jhonas Enroth received the start in net Saturday against Winnipeg.

Johnny Oduya brought the puck into the Sabres’ zone and ripped a shot top corner past Enroth to give Winnipeg the 2-1 victory in overtime.

Enroth played a solid game, but received the loss in a 39-save effort. The loss is the second straight for Buffalo, who have not been able to put together back-to-back wins since November 11th.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped all but one of his 31 shots faced as Winnipeg left Buffalo with two points.

Just minutes into the game Thomas Vanek took a Tyler Myers slapshot to the mid-section. Although he played his next shift, Vanek headed to the dressing room and did not return during the first period.

Tyler Myers made an impact in his home debut since his return from injury, tipping in his third goal of the season and putting Buffalo out to a 1-0 lead.

With an assist on the goal was Jason Pominville, who played in his 500th career game.

After a penalty to Jordan Leopold for sliding the goaltender’s stick back to Enroth, the Sabres were down two men. A mad scramble around the Sabres net resulted in a Winnipeg goal with under five seconds to play in the period.

Blake Wheeler netted his 8th of the season, knotting the game at one as the teams headed to the locker rooms for the intermission.

Winnipeg scored the next and last goal of the game, sending the Buffalo fans home with yet another loss.

The Sabres will next play a home and home series with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The first game is Tuesday in Toronto and the second will be in Buffalo on Friday.

I believe the Sabres problems can be summed up by lack of scoring, careless puck play in terms of give aways, less then impressive showings out of both goalies, and injuries. I think the injury thing is sort of a crutch, but it’s hard to get your players on the same page when you don’t have the same players. Two players I would like to see more from is Boyes and Leino. I was expecting more from these guys when I heard of them being added to the roster. I would throw Miller in there, but I think Ryan will… Read more »

I personally think it is time to make some changes asap….whether it is letting Lindy go, which I don’t want to see, or a major trade. These guys do not want to play for this guy at all…just please do something soon before it is to late.
