The Senators came into the game allowing the 2nd most goals in the league with 131. While defense has been a problem of Ottawa, offense has been an issue for Buffalo.

The Sabres scored a total of two goals in the previous pair of games, and were unable to light the lamp more than two times Saturday night during a 3-2 shootout loss against Ottawa.

The Sabres’ woes continue as the team has now dropped three straight to close out 2011. Jason Pominiville put Buffalo up in the shootout, giving his team a chance to win.

Daniel Alfredsson kept the Senators alive and Bobby Butler finished it off as Ottawa left Buffalo with two points.

Although the Sabres earned a point, they need to start winning. They have been falling in the standings and fans are just waiting for a turnaround.

Buffalo were outshot 46-28 on the night, but the score could have been much worse. Ottawa rang six or seven shots off the goal post, but only scored twice after regulation.

Also in the loss, Thomas Vanek did not register a point, snapping his seven game point streak, which tied a career high.

Brad Boyes got the Sabres on the board early in the first period with a power play goal. Ottawa never led the game until it as over.

The Sabres’ next game will be on Tuesday when they host the Edmonton Oilers at the First Niagara Center.
