Flashbacks
Remember all of those memorable Sabres moments? Some of which you may have lived to see, others you have seen highlights of. Well, here is your chance to relive those moments with SHC’s Flashbacks.
Sabres Hockey Central takes a look back at memorable Buffalo Sabres games, players, and events. You will be able to relive these moments with SHC every Thursday. We will provide you with a different flashback every week, giving you an in depth look at some of Buffalo’s best NHL moments.

Buffalo 6, San Jose 5
February 13th, 2009 was a lot more than just a game between the Buffalo Sabres and San Jose Sharks. A plane crash in Clarence Center left the entire city of Buffalo devastated. The National Hockey League questioned whether or not the game should be played.
A few of the Sabres had family and friends that lived in the area, and many people knew some of the victims that died in the plane crash of flight 3407. It was a sad evening for the town and Buffalo honored the victims with a moment of silence before the game started.
The NHL decided to keep the game on schedule, and Sabres fans got some happiness back. Adam Mair and Jaroslav Spacek each scored a goal within three minutes to give Buffalo a 2-0 lead. Derek Roy’s power play goal a few minutes later had the Sabres up by three over the league leading Sharks who were 37-7-8 and 10-1-2 agains the Eastern Conference. Continue Reading
Buffalo 5, Dallas 4
The Sabres have not fared well against the Stars over the past decade or so, and it began to show during a game in Dallas a couple of seasons ago. Buffalo made a trip to Dallas to take on the Stars in mid January and started off with some struggles.
Buffalo’s problems began when Drew Stafford took two straight penalties, both of which resulted in a goal for the Stars. Matt Niskanen and Steve Ott both scored to give Dallas a 2-0 after the first period.
Buffalo was outshot 12-5 in the first period, and things weren’t looking good for the Sabres. Dallas came out in the second with another goal just a couple minutes in. Trevor Daley’s wrist shot beat Miller and upped the lead to three. Continue Reading
Buffalo 8, Tampa Bay 5
It didn’t take long at all before the Sabres got on the board in this one. J.P. Dumont began the scoring just 27 seconds into the opening period to set the tone for the game. The Lightning would strike with two powerplay goals a couple of minutes apart to take the 2-1 lead.
Dumont for the Sabres, scoring again, this time a powerplay goal with help from Daniel Briere and Brian Campbell. After the first period the game was all tied up at two and Tampa was outshooting the Sabres 17-9.
In the second period, both teams exchanged goals within a minute to make it a 3-3 game. Paul Gaustad and Vincent Lecavalier each tallied a goal. The two teams did the same thing later in the second period. Continue Reading
Less than three minutes into the opening period, Chris Gratton scored what would be the game winning goal. After the first goal, the Sabres kept pouring it on. Philadelphia couldn’t get anything going and seemed to be out of gas.
Doug Gilmour, Donald Audette, and Dave Andreychuk all scored a goal in the first period, making it 4-0 after twenty minutes. Buffalo scored four goals on eight shots in the first period on Flyers goaltender Roman Cechmanek. Continue Reading
