The Sabres have acquired defenseman Henrik Tallinder from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for forward Riley Boychuk.
After playing in New Jersey for the past three seasons, Tallinder will return to Buffalo, where his career started.
Tallinder was originally drafted by the Sabres in 1997, as a 2nd round (48th overall) selection. He’s put up 20 points in a season twice, but is better known for his defensive play. He also assisted Tyler Myers as both players have a similar height and style of play.
Tallinder is 34 years old and is signed through this upcoming season with a cap hit of just under $4M. The move reunites Tallinder with Myers especially, but it allows the Sabres to have some veteran experience on the blue line.
“We are excited to have Henrik back in the mix on our blue line,” said Regier. “His experience will be invaluable not only in adding more stability to our back end, but also in the development of some of our younger defensemen.”
