Sabres waive Nathan Gerbe

By
Updated: July 3, 2013

The news has yet to be confirmed by the Buffalo Sabres, but the news came across the wire as soon the NHL released news of waiver transactions today.

Gerbe was set to head into the final year of his deal at 1.45 million dollar cap hit. He was set to become a restricted free agent following the 2013-14 season.

It is expected that once Gerbe clears waivers, he will be bought out and become an unrestricted free agent.

Once we get confirmation and a statement from the Sabres, we will be sure to pass it along.

UPDATE:
This buyout will cost the Sabres an estimated $308,333 over the next two seasons, but it takes Gerbe’s $1.45 million dollar cap hit immediately off the books. Also, when Gerbe’s agent was reached for comment, he stated that both him and Nathan had no warning of this buyout.

hemorrhaging talent? Gerbe isn’t exactly top level talent. too small of a player who doesn’t produce at the NHL level. Who gives a crap about heart when its scoring and Defense we need?

As much as I like Gerbe I don’t mind this move. Honestly he probably won’t have a regular role in the nhl again. He is too small and just doesn’t produce. He will be an AHL stud and I wish him the best. He always gave 100% and for that I will always have this little niggas back.

July 3, 2013 4:39 PM

He may have given 100% but you gotta get rid of the smallest player in the league who doesn’t produce a whole lot either. 1 good season if you can call it that. Saving cap space to bring in a better player who can score better than him. Good move. Need more size too.

wtf are they thinking?ya get rid of players that give 100 percent, how the hell does that make sense?

Boooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

I will SO MISS Nathan . . . he always gave 110% when he was on the ice.

July 3, 2013 1:15 PM

You guys seriously think Gerbe deserves to be on this team let alone the NHL? He’s a waste, he throughs his body around more than Grabovsky in game 6. It’s not his fault you wasted money on a Gerbe jersey because you thought he was cute.

Too small and not enough talent to be in the nhl

My guess would be they are looking for money to trade Miller and sign Hodgson to a longer term deal. I like Gerbe but all in all he wasn’t worth 1.85 and others are ready to take his minutes.

July 3, 2013 1:08 PM

Seriously fuck this team. The only two players I love on this team are ott and gerbe and once again, Darcy is a moron.

love the guy, always will, but ppl should’ve expected his career to be short (no pun intended), he is amazingly skilled but unfortunately his size limits him, as much as he tries to hide it with his aggressiveness

Great move he is a waste of space, he does nothing for this team except convince fans that he has heart, which means nothing since he won’t throw a hit anymore due to his injuries

July 3, 2013 12:34 PM

Interesting like ….no want to stafford out next gonna miss gerbes heart tho.

July 3, 2013 12:31 PM
