NHL Suspends Patrick Kaleta
The NHL has announced that Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta has been suspended for five games, following his boarding penalty from last night’s game with the Rangers.
Kaleta was assessed a five-minute major and a ten-minute misconduct following the dangerous penalty on Rangers forward Brad Richards.
Here’s what NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan had to say about the boarding penalty.
This is not Kaleta’s first time being suspended for wrecklessness.
In November 2009, Kaleta was suspended 2 games for boarding Flyers forward Jared Ross and in November 2011, he was suspended 4 games for headbutting Flyers forward Jakub Voracek.
“I’m just sorry for the position I put the team in trying to kill that penalty,” said Kaleta when speaking to WGR’s Paul Hamilton. “Putting the penalty killers out there and them getting the two goals, it makes me feel like a bag of garbage after seeing that.”
Kaleta is scheduled to return on Sunday, March 17th when the Sabres face the Washington Capitals.
