Hecht heads home
After 13 NHL seasons (nine with the Sabres), Jochen Hecht’s NHL career has come to an end, at least for now. The 35-year-old forward missed 53 games last season due to a concussion and with his contract ending in June, Darcy Regier did not re-sign him.
Hecht signed a two year contract with Adler Mannheim of the German league this week.
The two time 20-goal scorer also played for St.Louis and Edmonton during his NHL career, but had his best years in Buffalo.
In two seasons from 2006-08, Hecht put up 105 points. Here’s one of his shooutout goals (go to the 1:16 mark):
Here’s another highlight:
Hecht was a Sabre for quite some time, and he was a consistent forward that quietly did his job. Good luck to Hecht in Germany.
Nathan Gerbe revealed that he had spine surgery over the summer, which would have caused him to be out for up to six months. Had the season started in time, the Sabres would be playing without him.
“It’s been a good time for me to get healthy,” said Gerbe. “I had spine surgery in the summer… I’m just starting to catch my groove and get strong again, and hopefully I can get back at some point this season.-WIVB.com”
