Debate: Derek Roy

I think it’s safe to say that Derek Roy had an off year this past season for Buffalo. In 80 games, the centerman had just 44 points (17 G, 27 A) and was a -7 on the year. Those aren’t great numbers for Roy.

Roy has hit at least 60 points four times in his career, all of which were consecutive years. He only played 35 games during the 2010-2011 season, ending his streak. Then, this past year, he put up 44 points in 80 games.

This October, Roy will be entering a contract year, with a cap hit of $4M.

At this point in his career, how much more can we get from Roy? Even If he does have a better season, would Buffalo be better off keeping him or trading him?

I would trade him and fire Darcy and keep firing him over and over. They should trade Ennis next year or the year after and I know you think I'm crazy but because he's good we can get something from him rather then being stuck with people nobody wants like always

Trade him, so he can play in the playoffs next year, just like the other former Sabers are doing this year.

Honestly I don't know how realistic this could be but if sj loses again, thornton could be on the trade block. Package Roy a first Pysyk/Brennan. We might need to give up more but Darcy is going for a center with size.

Trade Roy and the 12th overall pick in the draft to Edmonton for the first overall pick. If the Oilers said it wasn't enough, I'd package in Boyes and ask for an additional fourth rounder. Then I'd fire Ruff and resign. That's all assuming I was Darcy Regier. But if I was Regier, I probably would have killed myself back in '07 after I let Briere slip through my fingers ... just saying.

bounce him up outta here, we will even cheer him on as he goes...Good Bye DEREK! Good By Derek! make him feel all loved n stuff, while we side eye each other as he passes, lol...... idk i kinda agree with David Sparbel...he is gonna be insane this season cuz its a contract year so deal him in March...what difference does it make anyway, Regier + Ruff = more of the same. You have to excuse me im not over missing playoffs yet, lol

Package him with a 1st and move up in the draft. OR, if you can land a legit top six forward, package him and a 1st for that.

Maybe trade if possible. He has 1 yr left on his contract. You can bet he will show up next year so he gets the big $. Aka drew stafford. Roy was a point a game guy till his major injury, just may have to give him till at least trade deadline.
