Ruff/Regier to Return for 16th season

Rate this post

Following another tumultuous season for the Buffalo Sabres, many fans throughout the area have begun to question the leadership of the franchise behind the bench and behind the scenes.

Sabres President Ted Black is not one of those people.

This afternoon, through the Buffalo News, Black confirmed that the Buffalo Sabres will be bringing back head coach Lindy Ruff and General Manager Darcy Regier for their 16th season together, keeping them as the longest tenured head coach/GM tandem in the NHL.

“Sometimes success and winning aren’t necessarily the same thing,” said Black. “I think we’re building a successful franchise that can win the Stanley Cup.”

Although the Sabres have missed the playoffs three of the last five years and six of the last ten years, upper management is confident that Ruff and Regier have a good thing going and they do not want to interfere.

In 1148 games as the Sabres head coach, Lindy Ruff has a career record of 565-422-78-83.

Villy lamo was a bad move... lack of being able to motivate a this team has been a problem. Team not knowing to fight When the goaltender gets ran is a big problem. I must say that Ruff and Darcy must be on thin ice.

It's not easy to find the next Dan Bylsma, who can step right in and have success as a coach. Buffalo would go through 5 coaches searching for him and then people would be bemoaning the fact we don't have an established coach with experience. Keep Ruff. He wasn't the one throwing blind passes around, not tying up someone's stick in the slot and taking dumb penalties.

Darcy has had ONE off season with handcuffs off...look who he brought and what he did in the trades? Smart move keeping him... lindy is a very good hard coach and had a ruff season..weve had what ? 5 pplayers score thir first nhl goal and at one point had 9 rookies in the line up...no ur not gonna make play offs... but when we were healthy we were winning and no issue...i like the move
