Debate: Was Tim Thomas’ action justifiable?

Rate this post

On January 23rd, The 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins paid a visit to the White House in honor of their championship win. Except one key player was not present; Tim Thomas, elite Boston Bruins goaltender, who said that his views and beliefs were the reason he was not present at the ceremony.

Later that evening Thomas stated the following:

“I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.

This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.

Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.
This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT”

Please do not make this a political debate. This is a debate in terms Thomas’ actions.

Also, think about what your reaction would be if it were Ryan Miller who didn’t attend with the team?

Was Thomas' action justifiable by his reasoning?

You sir eric are ignorant and stupid at the same time. What he did was something everyone should take a page out of his book to do so. He has done what every one of our citizens can do. What he said is completely true and I would do the same thing.

He's an American and was invited by our president to visit the White House. By not doing so he disgraced himself and the NHL. There are also plenty of liberal Bruin fans that help make him a millionaire. He advocates greed and uncivic individualism. Not to mention he looks petty in doing so. Also his statement ended with this is the last statement I'll make on this topic. I hope the media hounds him for his cowardice. Obama is a reasonable man and would probably have had a conversation with him had he requested it. He missed an important opportunity to start a dialog.
