Sabres Get Destroyed in Pittsburgh, 8-3

Rate this post

After finally getting a win on home ice Friday night, against Toronto, the Sabres headed to the road, where they have had success.

Coming into the game with an 8-3 record seemed like a valid reason to believe Buffalo would do well as they have five of the next six games away from home.

Consider this an off night, since the Sabres didn’t show up.

Things didn’t go as planned for Buffalo as Lindy Ruff chose to go with Ryan Miller in net once again. The Sabres found themselves down 3-0 10 minutes into the game, and that was just the beginning.

Evgeni Malkin led the charge for the Penguins and recorded a hat trick and two assists as Pittsburgh defeated Buffalo 8-3.

Only four Penguins failed to record a point and Jason Williams and Simon Despres both scored their first goal of the season.

Thomas Vanek closed the gap to two, but it didn’t last long. The two goal deficit was as close as the Sabres would come to tying this game up.

Paul Gaustad scored his first goal since October 8th and Luke Adam had the other Sabres goal, but it didn’t matter much. Gaustad was also a plus 3 in the loss.

The goaltending was horrendous for the Sabres as Miller and Enroth split time and goal. Miller stopped 10 of 15 and Enroth allowed three goals on 11 shots. At the other end, Fleury stopped 16 of 19 and earned an easy win.

This was a forgettable game for the Sabres, and they had more issues than just getting blown out.

To add insult to injury (literally), Tyler Ennis and Colin Stuart both left the game and did not return.
Jason Pominville extended his point streak (1 G, 7 A) to six games with an assist tonight.

The Sabres will head to Ottawa to face the Senators on Tuesday, followed by another meeting with Toronto two days after.
