The Buffalo Sabres came into tonight’s game with the Ottawa Senators, looking to build off the success they had less than a week ago against the Senators. It is fair enough to say that the Sabres accomplished that.

2:09 into the first period, Derek Roy put the Sabres on the board first with his 5th goal of the season. 16 seconds later, the Sabres would be up 2-0. The second goal for the Sabres was scored by Matt Ellis, his first goal of the season.

At this point in the game, the Ottawa Senators pulled goaltender Craig Anderson, in favor for backup goaltender Alex Auld.

Two minutes later, the Senators would get on the board for the only time in the game. Sergei Gonchar was the man to score a power play goal for the Senators, his first of the season, although it essentially was a 5-on-3.

With 5:20 left in the first, the Sabres regained their two goal lead when Jordan Leopold tallied his third goal of the season.

There was no scoring by either team in the second period but the Sabres would change that once the third period started.

Four minutes into the final period, Luke Adam recorded his fifth goal of the season. This put the Sabres up, 4-1.

57 seconds later, Ville Leino scored his second goal of the season and put the Sabres up, 5-1.

Those five goals would be enough for the Buffalo Sabres to hold off the Ottawa Senators. The Sabres head to 2-0-0 on the season against the Ottawa Senators.

The Buffalo Sabres play tomorrow night at the TD Garden against the Boston Bruins at 7:00 PM. The game will be broadcast live on MSG.
