Ryan Miller: Face of the Franchise

Updated: April 7, 2010

Drafted in the 5th round (138th overall), Ryan Miller has certainly made an impact on the Sabres. He was quickly noticed as a legit goaltender by the entire NHL. Now, he is being considered as one of the elite.

Was it just a coincidence that Miller was drafted right after Brett Hull cheated to defeat the Sabres for the cup?

Miller posted his 40th win of the season Tuesday night as the Sabres clinched the division. The most wins Dominik Hasek ever had with the Sabres was 37, which he did twice. I know some of you readers are already arguing that Hasek didn’t have a team in front of him. It doesn’t matter.

Miller has won 40 games twice in the last four seasons. He could have done it again if he wasn’t injured by Scott Gomez. Miller has become the face of the franchise. In a few years, Tyler Myers could be up there as well, but for now, it’s all Miller.

Is there a goalie you would rather have then Miller? Is it safe to say he will win the Vezina? Let us know what you think.

Check out this save on Marion Gaborik during Tuesday’s game:

That was just one of the many amazing saves Miller has made. Here’s one of my personal favorites:

Impressive huh? Is there any goalie in the NHL better than him? Comment below.

Only two other goalies should be considered for the Vezina this season (next to Miller): Brodeur of the NJ Deveils (as usual), and Bryzgalov of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Bryzgalov in particular has had an OUTSTANDING season, and isn’t getting the league recognition he deserves.

Unfortunately for him though, Miller takes the cake. I believe Miller should have the Vezina trophy locked up and secured. He has been a STUD in net for the Sabres all season, and he became one of the most famous and respected hockey players IN THE WORLD after his unbelievable play for the United States in the Olympics.
